Festival poetry night returns.
The popular 'Hard Rain Poetry' Night returns for a Festival special on 31st October. The night has 2 parts to it. A poetry / creative writing workshop from 6pm till 8pm and an open mic / poetry meet up with guest Maria K.
The poetry night is Levenshulme's longest running poetry night. It has been described as having a '...very caring, open atmosphere' and welcomes people from across all cultures.
For the festival special, there will be a poetry workshop - with the theme of journeys. Led by Maria K and Shamshad - this is a safe place to share ideas and creativity.
From 8-10pm, special guest Maria K leads the open mic / poetry meet up. Maria K said, "As a response to acting, I started writing monologues and sketches and performed them. I began journaling my experiences of travelling Japan as a karaoke hostess in 1996-97 and overall I am inspired by the theme of journeyand writing as a response to direct experience and art."
The Open mic / poetry meet up is an opportunity to share your own poems. Please bring poems and stories to share (your own work or by other writers or poets) This is also a chance to network and chat about poetry and the future of Hard Rain. Everyone is welcome - no writing experience necessary - musicians especially welcome.
Shamsad Khan, who is behind the night has now reluctantly moved away from Levenshulme. She will continue to run Hard Rain sessions till November. Would you like to volunteer to help run Levenshulme's longest running poetry night? If so - please call Shamsad on 07786 816 173/
